Passion
for the perfect sound

For more than 35 years, HK Audio has stood for innovative sound reinforcement solutions, outstanding sound quality and excellent value for money. Four decades of expertise and the trust of our customers form the foundation of our success. What began in a modest workshop in Saarland has grown into a globally respected brand, driven by a clear passion: to make the path to perfect sound as simple as possible – and to inspire people around the world with captivating audio.

From the very beginning, we have brought development, manufacturing and quality assurance together under one roof at our site in St. Wendel. As a family-run company, we value continuity and a true sense of togetherness: 60% of our team have been part of HK Audio’s success story for more than a decade, and over a third have been with us for more than 20 years. This expertise, built over generations, shapes who we are – technologically precise and closely connected as people. Together with strong international partners in more than 80 countries, we share our passion for exceptional sound with the world.

For us, “Making the world sound better” is far more than a slogan – it is a promise we live by and one that inspires us every day.

1979

A spirit of progress and innovation

The brothers Lothar Stamer, an engineer, and Hans Stamer, a finance specialist, founded STAMER MUSIKANLAGEN with a clear vision: to create high-quality loudspeaker systems for musicians and event organizers. Custom-built solutions for individual customers soon became a hallmark of the company, followed by a professional sound reinforcement division serving major events across southwestern Germany. This direct connection to the market made it possible to feed insights straight into product development.

1984

Hughes & Kettner – International Breakthrough

After five years of growth, it was time for a new strategic direction. With the Hughes & Kettner brand and the pioneering QX4, the company made its move into international markets – first in Germany, and soon across Europe. Production shifted from traditional craftsmanship to industrial-scale manufacturing.

1987

Relocation to St. Wendel and the “Cream Machine”

Successful expansion made a move to a new location necessary. The company relocated to a new industrial park in St. Wendel, with room for manufacturing and long-term growth. The year’s hit, the Hughes & Kettner Cream Machine, became the first product to sell more than 10,000 units and helped shape the brand’s reputation worldwide.

1989

Two Brands, Two Audiences – HK Audio Is Born

The clear distinction between the target audiences led to the creation of HK Audio as a standalone brand for PA systems, while Hughes & Kettner focused on guitar amplifiers. The first HK Audio product, the P1 system, was launched. At the same time, computer-controlled production marked the company’s move into “Industry 2.0”: greater capacity, tighter tolerances and optimized processes.

1992

High-End Sound for Everyone

With LINEAR PRO, HK AUDIO made high-end sound quality accessible for the first time to smaller sound reinforcement companies and bands. This tradition continues to this day in the current LINEAR series and has cemented the brand’s reputation as a leading choice for practical, powerful and affordable solutions.

1995

R-SERIES

With the legendary R-SERIES, HK AUDIO introduces a new family of large-format PA systems featuring the world’s first FIR controller. The system proves so compelling that the Scorpions take it on a stadium tour.

1998

LUCAS Plug’n‘Play

The next major step in production was the launch of a new robot-equipped paint line. With absolute consistency, it applies a durable, environmentally friendly finish to 600 speaker cabinets a day.

In 1998, HK AUDIO launched LUCAS, its most successful product series to date. Once again, an innovative concept was the key to its success. For the first time, a complex sound reinforcement system worked on a plug-and-play basis, making great sound easy for everyone to achieve.

2001

More is more

After the expansion options at Magdeburger Straße had been exhausted, a second site was opened just a few hundred metres away on Tritschlerstraße.
The new site also housed the company’s own EMC test lab and, in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute, Europe’s largest Class 1 measurement room.

2004

COHEDRA – HK AUDIO goes Line Array

With COHEDRA, HK AUDIO introduced the brand’s first large-scale line array system. From then on, COHEDRA became the first choice wherever large-scale sound reinforcement called for exceptionally pure, uncolored sound.
In 2004, the HK AUDIO Demo Hall was inaugurated at the company’s site. Since then, it has regularly hosted user training sessions and dealer events.

2010

Global manufacturing

With its groundbreaking concept, ELEMENTS became the most talked-about new product of the year and went on to become HK AUDIO’s most successful individual product of all time.
ELEMENTS was the first product to be made through an international production network, combining the capacity of the company’s headquarters in St. Wendel with that of its partners in Asia.

2014

The Multicell-Transformer

A major milestone for HK AUDIO was the development of the Multicell Transformer, which enables purer sound, more precise directivity and more compact designs. The technology was first used in the LUCAS NANO 600 system, which delivers astonishingly big sound for its size.

2019

COSMO & POLAR – two heroes

With the COSMO family, HK AUDIO introduces a groundbreaking new line array concept that, for the first time, allows components with different horizontal dispersion characteristics to be combined without compromising sound quality.
The POLAR 10 column PA system makes its world premiere as the first product in the series – and makes a splash from the outset.

2020

Premium Sound at an Affordable Price

With the launch of the SONAR series in November 2020, HK Audio brought professional features to an accessible price point for the first time.

2023–2026

Years of Consolidation and Innovation

Following ISE 2022, HK Audio stepped up product development across all segments. In Live Sound, the LINEAR 5 MK2 and LINEAR 9 series strengthened the company’s market position, while the Portable segment expanded with the POLAR column systems, including the POLAR 8 and the completed MK2 series. For permanent indoor installations, the ball-impact-resistant FINEO series was introduced, while the modular COSMO line array offered flexibility for large-scale events. In Concert Sound, the flagship long-throw model CONTOUR X 210 LT was also launched. The portfolio was further expanded with the LUNAR and PORTABLE SUB families for DJs and live performers. All these innovations have been – and continue to be – developed and manufactured in St. Wendel as “Made in Germany” products.

Made in Germany

For almost four decades, “Made in Germany” has been a cornerstone of who we are. From the initial concept through precise engineering and manufacturing to uncompromising quality control, every detail fits seamlessly together—under one roof and guided by the same objective commitment to quality that every department puts into practice each day. For us, this unwavering dedication is the foundation for delivering a lasting, inspiring and reliable sound experience to users around the world.

To this day, the vast majority of HK AUDIO products carry the “Made in Germany” label. In recent years, we have also added loudspeaker systems designated “Engineered in Germany.” To make the subtle distinctions between these two origin labels clear and transparent, we outline below how our company is structured—from initial development and manufacturing through to marketing and sales.

Development – Innovation with Substance

Our in-house Research and Development department is the beating heart of our innovation. Each year, around €1.2 million is invested in pioneering R&D projects, driven by the ambition to push technological boundaries and refine existing solutions down to the smallest detail.

Here, interdisciplinary engineering teams bridge the gap between scientific precision and hands-on passion. Using state-of-the-art simulation, design and measurement tools, as well as prototype production close to series manufacturing, they bring new concepts to life. Rigorous laboratory and real-world testing – including demanding endurance tests under extreme conditions – ensure that every system sets new standards in acoustic performance, safety and durability.

For us, quality is not a final box to tick on the production line. It is a mindset that guides every step, from the first vision to the finished series product.

Production – Precision You Can Hear

Great sound begins with the details. In our manufacturing process, premium materials – such as carefully selected Finnish birch and high-density German MDF – come together through state-of-the-art CNC precision engineering and true craftsmanship.

A look behind the scenes brings this precision to life: every day, we use 5,234 wooden dowels. Stacked on top of one another, they would form a tower taller than the spires of Cologne Cathedral. Each year, our paint line applies 45,000 kg of environmentally friendly water-based paint – enough to coat 69 Airbus A380s in deep black. For us, uncompromising durability and environmental responsibility have always gone hand in hand.

From the first cut of the cabinet to our in-house metal and electronic components and the final acoustic stress test, every system undergoes the most rigorous testing. The result: perfection you can not only hear, but feel.

Sales – Service – Marketing: Connected Worldwide

With more than 150 specialized retail partners in Germany and over 90 distributors in more than 80 countries, we combine a global presence with strong regional roots. Sales and Marketing work hand in hand, developing tailored campaigns and supporting our partners locally through in-depth product knowledge, practical training and personal, collaborative advice. The ongoing dialogue with sound engineers, users and partners gives us valuable insights – the foundation for the worldwide success of our systems.

A dependable global service network, including our own repair workshop and a comprehensive spare parts shop, also helps protect our customers’ investment. This keeps HK Audio systems reliable tools for many years in the demanding environments of live events and installations – from our latest technological innovations to proven classics.
