Brita-Arena Wiesbaden – Reconstruction of the West Stand
In 2021, the West Stand of the Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden was completely rebuilt. This forward-looking construction phase, completed during ongoing match operations, meets the DFL’s stadium capacity requirements and now accommodates up to 15,000 spectators.
The new stand also includes integrated camera platforms and press areas for media representatives. Ensuring uniform and high-quality sound coverage across all zones was therefore essential. EN 54-24 certified loudspeakers from the VORTIS 2 series, powered by an eXentro voice alarm system (EN 54-16) from Gräf & Meyer, were selected for this purpose.
The unconventional loudspeaker layout in groups of five was a result of the “historically developed” structural conditions of the adjacent older stands. Acoustic planning and validation were carried out through extensive EASE simulations by the HK Audio Application Engineering Team.
The installed loudspeakers feature 55° × 90° horns in the center positions and rotated, asymmetrical high-frequency horns on the outer positions. This combination provides optimal sound distribution with minimal overlap between coverage areas.
From the operator’s perspective, the new integrated PA/VA system offers an outstanding price-performance ratio: it meets both building regulations and the DFB’s acoustic requirements while delivering high-quality sound for music and speech — all within the same budget.
