Full Sound System Renovation for the Africa Cup of Nations 25/26

Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca is Morocco’s oldest and most iconic football stadium. Opened in 1955, the 67,000-seat venue in the Maârif district is home to the country’s two most-followed clubs — Wydad Athletic Club and Raja Club Athletic — and regularly hosts international matches and large-scale events.

When Morocco took over as host nation for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 25/26 in late 2023, the stadium required a complete sound system overhaul to meet the technical demands of an international tournament. The entire planning and installation phase had to be completed within just six weeks.

The acoustic environment added further complexity: only one of the four stands has a roof, severely limiting available loudspeaker positions. The system had to deliver long-throw coverage over distances of up to 150 m while maintaining consistent SPL and speech intelligibility throughout the entire bowl.

HK Audio delivered the project together with local partner Algam Maghreb, integrator Maghrebnet and consultant Melanie Ziska (SAVE Audio Solutions). System design was carried out in EASE 5 with Acousteer; amplifier configuration was handled via Armonia+.

The system comprises 166 COSMO series loudspeakers powered by over 250 kW of Powersoft UNICA amplification. COSMO’s adaptable horizontal coverage and long-throw capabilities proved decisive in achieving consistent, high-quality sound despite the restricted rigging positions. Prior to the tournament, the system was put to the test at the legendary Casablanca derby between Raja and Wydad — receiving consistently positive feedback from technicians and organizers alike.

The stadium hosted six group stage matches, a round of 16 game and the third-place play-off of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 25/26.
